Dr. Hughes awarded research grant from the Endocrine Fellows Foundation

Jing Hughes, MD, PhD was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Endocrine Fellows Foundation for her research project Glucagon regulation by a novel brown adipose factor.

Dr. Hughes has extensive research experience as a beta cell biologist. While at Yale, she pioneered a high-throughput imaging technique to study beta cell death in autoimmune diabetes in mice. Here at Washington University, Dr. Hughes helped discover a new mechanism of immune activation in type 1 diabetes, and is now working with colleagues in the Piston laboratory to study islet hormone secretion. Dr. Hughes is actively involved in patient care and teaching, also participates in clinical trials that develop new insulin-delivery methods for type 1 diabetes.
