JOB DESCRIPTION: Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) in St. Louis is seeking a faculty-level Assistant Director for its Core Laboratory for Clinical Studies (CLCS), a CLIA-certified testing facility. Its mission is to support the University’s clinical research program, to provide outpatient testing for patient care, and to develop, adopt, or test new assays, platforms, or equipment for analyses. The Assistant Director will work closely with other WUSM faculty to choose the most appropriate analytical methods and/or to devise new laboratory developed tests (LDTs) as needed. Closely associated with the Washington University Mass Spectrometry Resource and the Proteomics Core Laboratory, the CLCS also focuses on innovative mass spectroscopic methods and applications in human physiology for both its CLIA and research use only (RUO) testing.
The Assistant Director will be involved in most aspects of Core Lab activity. She/he will assist the director and have oversight in sample collection and processing, laboratory and point of care testing, quality control, quality management, regulatory affairs, and financial management.
As a WUSM faculty member, the Assistant Director is expected to maintain excellence in science and ongoing collaboration with faculty research. The Assistant Director will also work with FDA and other University peers to assure that LDTs are safe, effective, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in a biological, chemical or physical science and boarded in Clinical chemistry; fellowship in clinical chemistry. Two years related experience in a clinical laboratory management capacity preferred.
