Research Interests
The concept of Hypoglycemia-associated autonomic failure (HAAF) in diabetes posits that recent antecedent hypoglycemia causes both a reduced epinephrine response to subsequent hypoglycemia and a reduced awareness of the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia, causing a vicious cycle of recurrent hypoglycemia. However it is not clear what mediates this phenomenon. We are interested in determining what pathways mediate HAAF and plan to study this in a model of HAAF in healthy individuals.
