Biography

Dr. Powers received her PhD in biochemistry from Georgia Tech in 1993 where she used both cellular and enzymatic studies to investigate novel adrenergic analogs and effectors with Dr. Sheldon W. May. She then taught biochemistry and related courses at Kennesaw State University near Atlanta, GA, where she helped establish a BS degree program in biochemistry and developed laboratory techniques for teaching and research purposes with undergraduates. Always interested in medical applications of biochemistry, she decided to pursue training in clinical chemistry and completed a two-year fellowship at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City in 2016, receiving certification by the American Board of Clinical Chemists. She is the Director of the Core Laboratory for Clinical Studies at Washington University School of Medicine.
