I’m originally from Mexico City, but went to medical school in Monterrey (Northeastern of Mexico). While in medical school I had the amazing opportunity to travel as a visiting medical student to Paris, Boston and Rochester, MN. I also spent four months in Houston studying for the USMLEs and during this time I met my husband, Daniel. In my final year, I worked in clinical trials and really enjoyed the experience, so I went back to Rochester and worked as research fellow in the Cardiovascular Diseases Division for one year. I studied body composition and cardiometabolic risk in normal-weight obese people and the sensitivity and specificity of BMI to assess changes in body composition. I also earned the Mexican Science and Technology Scholarship and obtained the Certificate in Clinical and Translational Science from the Mayo Clinic. Afterwards, I moved to Chicago to start my residency at UIC/Advocate Christ Medical Center. During residency I continued my research in the Department of Applied Health Sciences where I was involved in clinical trials studying the effect of different diets on endothelial function and inflammation markers. Outside of Medicine, I like to spend time with my family, we recently welcomed our son Santiago last February and we also have a 2-year-old yorkie named Pepe. We like travelling abroad, trying new restaurants and currently are house hunting for our first home!!!
