Takuya Yagi received his M.D. in 2006 and his Ph.D. in Neurology in 2012 from Keio University Graduate School of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan. While at Keio University, he worked on the mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders using induced pluripotent stem cell technology. In 2014, he joined Dr. Fumihiko Urano’s laboratory as a postdoctoral research scholar to study role of endoplasmic reticulum stress in neurodegenerative disorders and diabetes mellitus.
Neurodegenerative disorders and diabetes mellitus are intimately associated with perturbations in the ER protein quality control machinery, which trigger ER stress in cells. I seek to develop novel approaches based on the treatment of ER stress related diseases by the development of small molecules that protect cells from the ER stress-mediated cell death.
